The selectee for this position will serve as a Mechanical Engineering Technician in the Physical Acoustics Branch of the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) located in Washington, DC.
This branch conducts the Navy's in-house Physical Acoustics Research and Development Program aimed at developing new opportunities for exploiting physical acoustic and acoustic-related phenomena, processes and technologies in area and systems of importance to the Navy, DOD and the nation.
The selectee for this position will serve as a senior mechanical technician responsible for independently coordinating, fabricating, assembling and integrating hardware associated with acoustic measurement systems for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) and at-sea unmanned infrastructures.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level NR-03 (GS-9/10) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing some or all of the following duties: (1) fabricating, assembling, and integrating payloads for testing multiple classes of unmanned vehicles, mechanical systems and support hardware; (2) solving fabrication problems of mechanical systems by modifying standard practices and adapting specialized equipment; (3) providing guidance to mechanics and other technicians during the performance of fabrication, assembly, integration and test activities; (4) reporting hardware anomalies and providing recommendations; and, (5) reviewing mechanical drawings for conformance to established engineering standards.
