You qualify for the GS-6 level (starting salary $43,964) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level performing duties such as: preparing reports and correspondence; conducting searches and inputting data into computerized criminal databases; and responding to inquiries.You qualify for the GS-7 level (starting salary $48,856) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level performing duties such as: retrieving and compiling investigative reports; using a variety of law enforcement data systems to process and track evidence; and creating and maintaining investigative case files.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
